City market
Targówek
The current TARGÓWEK Market Square is located at the junction of Żeromskiego and Świętokrzyska Streets in Żywiec. The fenced, paved square of 2300 m2 has its own car park, lighting and access to toilets. The market has around 60 covered bazaar stalls and over 100 stalls where traders set up mainly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Trading takes place from Monday to Saturday from 6am to around 3pm.
The assortment of the market is very rich. Throughout the year we have a number of stalls selling clothing and footwear. In the summer season it is mainly vegetables, fruit and also flowers and other plants. Here we can find traditional handicrafts, as well as honey, milk, breads and cheeses produced on local farms. There is no shortage of agricultural equipment and household goods. On Saturdays, there is also an animal trade under the care of a veterinarian.
The Zywiec Fairs and Fair have a long and rich history. As early as 1518, Zywiec was granted a privilege for two fairs and thus became a thriving trade centre, bringing together merchants from the surrounding towns.
Until 1939, trading took place in the town's central square - the market square. After the war it was moved to Komoniecki Street.
